For the fourth year in a row, the Economic Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (CDEM), in partnership with the Alliance Française du Manitoba, Cinémental, and Freeze Frame, presents Cinéma sous les étoiles (Movies Under the Stars) from June 2 to August 25. Cinéma sous les étoiles offers free outdoor screenings of French-language films with English subtitles at the St.Boniface Cathedral ruins. We are grateful for the support of our partners, without whose help the event could not take place: the St. Boniface Cathedral, la Société de la Francophonie Manitobaine, L’Institut français, Le Conseil jeunesse provincial, our media partrner Radio-Canada Manitoba, La Liberté and Envol 91 FM, and Heritage Canada funding support.

Back in person, this edition of Cinéma sous les étoiles is part of a brand-new initiative called Jeudis de la francophonie (Francophonie Thursdays), which celebrates St. Boniface as the hub for arts and culture every Thursday this summer! Other programming elements will be announced in the coming weeks, Cinéma sous les étoiles being the one of flagship events of the Jeudis de la francophonie in St.Boniface.

Theme nights will also be featured as part of Cinéma sous les étoiles this summer, including the launch night on June 2 presented by the CDEM with the screening of Astérix and Obélix, the eve of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 23 with the CJP and the movie Menteur, the Bastille Day event of the Alliance Française du Manitoba on July 14 with the movie La famille Bélier, the Freeze Frame evening on July 21 with the film Calamity and finally to close off the season, the Cinémental night celebrating their 30th anniversary with the movie Héliosols from the Manitoban director Gabriel Tougas with Janique Freynet-Gagné, Yann Lacoste, Keith Damboise, Patrick Trudel, Yan Dallaire, Charles Leblanc, Keith Dambroise, Donald Legal et Laura Lussier.

In the event of cancellation due to rain or high winds, the CDEM will notify the public via social media and those who have registered at 233-ALLÔ will receive a notice by email. In this email, a link to an unreleased film offered by the Alliance française will ensure that participants enjoy a French film evening at home.
